Penny

Penny is a 6 year old Jack Russell who was found running along a busy road with her daughter.

The 2 lovely ladies were brought to Grande Daze Animal Rescue Centre and they were adopted to different homes.

Penny is now much loved and lives with another Jack Russell and two beautiful Labradors.

Luke

When he was very young Luke was rejected as a hunting dog and left to live in a concrete bunker. He was fed but never exercised or handled and therefore didn’t know how to behave. A kind young man came along and brought Luke to Grande Daze Rescue Centre where he was bathed, fed and made comfortable.

Luke was re-homed and now lives with Poppy, a black Labrador, several cats and a very kind lady who loves him. The two dogs attend agility training and lead a very active, happy life together.

Luke has also grown in confidence from a scared, shaking dog when he arrived at Grande Daze to attending his first agility shows in 2019 and happily socialising with strangers there.

Billie

We are thrilled to see Billie looking so happy. Thank you for giving him a loving home, it gives our hearts a lift so we can carry on and help the next dog that comes along. May Billie and all his new mates go from strength to strength.

Thanks so very much for our lad. He’s a delight! The dogs are being great with him. He was a dream in the car; the 3 amigos all together in the back and not a peep.

He’s settling in fine and keeps checking in for a cuddle. We feel very lucky.

Thank you for what you do. We wouldn’t have our lad without you.

Mr Tom

Dear little Mr Tom, at last it looks like you’ve found your forever home! Big big thanks to Francois and Colin for adopting you and huge thanks for the donation which we will put to very good use to help all your friends at Grande Daze.

We are delighted with Mr Tom. We call him little Tom, he does not care either way ? 3 weeks and he is part of our life?
After losing our dear Picatchou life was very gloomy. Now all is well again and it is reassuring to know we can always go to Anita and Peter for help and advice??

Meg

We were heartbroken to hear of Max’s death, having got to know him and Keith & Margaret through their attendance at agility training. We knew the gaping hole that would be left by the loss of such an energetic and loving dog all too well. We are so glad that Meg was able to ease their pain and that they were able to give Meg the loving home that she deserves.

Meg arrived with us just the day after our beloved dog Max was killed in a road accident. We had just buried him in the garden and we did not know what to do with ourselves in our sadness and shock. Just then Anita arrived with Meg and her favourite collie dog in her van and, bless her, saved our lives that day.

Anita said “just keep Meg to help with your grief,” and of course she did and now lives with us.

We understand that Meg’s history was that her previous owners had worked and left her as a puppy all day and, of course, she hated it and destroyed furniture etc. and eventually arrived at SPA in Laval and was just on the point of being euthanised when Anita rescued her and brought her to Grand Daze!

Meg was with Anita and Peter for years and they vowed that she would not be adopted by anyone who worked full-time, etc. We can only imagine how difficult it must have been to settle Meg after her sad life but, due to the love and affection given at Grand Daze, she is the most wonderful dog.

We have adopted her since March and she comes everywhere with us and its not a problem, we are retired and have always enjoyed walks in the forest and it is possible to leave her in the car whilst we go shopping etc. She is very affectionate and so anxious to please.

We can never thank Anita and Grand Daze for letting us have her!

Bo Bo, Frodo and Bert

Jeanne has helped these delightful little dogs to feel calm and secure in their home as they sit on the sofa having their photograph taken. The photograph was used as the basis for the portraits, painted by Jenny, and would not have been possible without the devotion of Jeanne and the trust the dogs have in her. The portraits are possible only because of the love and devotion between dogs and humans and are a testament to the special relationship and bond shared by Jeanne, Frodo, Bo Bo and Bert. It is a privilege to know such dogs and people.

Frodo, Bo Bo and Bert are real chums living happily together. All 3 had a bad start in life. Frodo, a young and boisterous Jack Russell, found himself homeless and then in the Rescue kennels, his previous life is a mystery.

Bo Bo’s story is tragic as he was ill treated by his previous owners and was found with various injuries, including having had something poked in his eye. Fortunately, help was at hand and he was given veterinary care and I nursed him back to health. Bo Bo has been brought back to physical health but is timid and afraid except when being given loving care on the sofa with Frodo and Bert.

It is thought that Bert was a hunting dog who got lost and no-one bothered to look for him. He was found under a car, starving and covered in scratches as though he’d been running through brambles. I had asked Anita and Peter to call me if another Jack Russell arrived at the Centre and thus Bert entered my life. He had so many scratches on his face that the name Scarface was considered, however, Bert became Bert because it suits him. As you can see from the portrait he’s now quite a handsome chap.

These 3 terriers were found at different times in different places and all were malnourished and in poor condition. With the assistance and expertise of Anita and Peter and, of course, the kindness and patience at home, there is a happy outcome for these lovely dogs.

Bo Bo is the cheeky Yorkshire Terrier and Frodo is the serious chappy on the left of the painting, whilst Bert reclines on the right, leaning on the arm of the sofa.

Mollie

Thank you to Barry & Christine for giving Mollie/Collie a wonderful second chance at life. We were so sorry to hear that their first adoption experience was not a good one but are pleased they gave adoption another chance and found their experience with Grande Daze much better. It is our policy not to rehome poorly pets, they remain at Grande Daze where they receive all the care they need from us and the vets we work very closely with.

We initially adopted a lovely cat from a different rescue centre. She had no vaccinations & no visits to the vets at all but we took her home to make sure she could have a warm home. The cat was already ill and after many visits to the vets she eventually died.
We were then told of Grand Daze by friends, so off we went. My wife is the cat lover, certainly not me! We went for an adult cat and were asked to make ourselves at home in the cat area. We did not pick a cat at all, this cat picked us. One ear disfigured and went by the name of Colliecat after the cauliflower ear. She had been fully inoculated so the three of us went home.

Colliecat, I ask you! So the nearest we thought would be Mollie. Mollie is a people’s cat. Likes company. Two years on she follows me around indoors and out. Gardening, she is always there right by me. Indoors she always wants to sit on my lap
and go to sleep.

Thanks Grande Daze for changing me from a dog person to a cat person, also giving me a good mate. So many cats and dogs but they were all well looked after there and I am glad the cat chose us as I do not think I could have chosen.

Vincent

A big thank you to Jenny & her wonderful husband who adopted little Vincent. Older rescue animals are often overlooked by people looking to adopt, especially ones who are also not the most visually appealing, but they deserve a loving home as much as any other. We so appreciate people, like Jenny, who are willing to give an older dog a happy retirement.

When we met Vincent at Grande-Daze it was love at first sight. Our Jack Russell/Poodle cross (a Jackapoo?) is very elderly, a bit deaf, partially sighted, has difficulty co-ordinating his actions, needs new teeth and some of his ‘manly bits’ aren’t quite in the right place! Oh, and his ears are wonky too and he’s bow legged and his tail is, well, too long and but and and …. oh, he is beautiful to us! He has found his forever home.

It appears that our new friend had been abandoned and thus was malnourished to the point of near death when he arrived at Grande-Daze. True to form Anita and Peter saved his life. He received veterinary care, was given antibiotics to clear up suspected infections and put on a special diet. When we saw Vince he had just begun to walk around. It was felt that he would benefit from a quiet environment and under almost constant supervision, thus, because of our circumstances we were able to give Vincent a home. Our rescued Shih Tzu cross, Jigger Joe, is an affable little fellow who is bilingual; took on the role of “carer”, ensuring that Vincent understood English and could learn the routine of the household.

Vincent

Caring for an older dog with an unknown past is not for everyone but for us it is proving to be a rewarding and interesting experience. During his first weeks at Grande-Daze he was given the doggie equivalent of ‘Intensive Care’ which is very time consuming and requires special knowledge. When The Centre assessed Vincent was ready we took over his care and we were given instructions on his needs. Grande-Daze has been there to help us every step of the way and given us confidence to care for our little friend who has thrived in his new environment. Without the advice and guidance from Anita and Peter we would not have known how to care for Vincent.

Vince is a lovable, comical, intelligent little elderly gent who has quickly settled in with us. He is putting on weight and his health is improving daily; even his gait is more co-ordinated. He likes to sit in the doorway most of the time and, with Jigger Joe, he takes a walk around the garden. He loves to travel in the car and enjoys a short walk in the park. On sight of his blue food dish he runs
inside eager to eat and the tasty morsels soon disappear. We don’t know the real age of this Charlie Chaplin mimic and we hope that he will be with us for many years. But however long he is with us it will be a pleasure to share our lives with him along with his mentor/carer, Jigger Joe. We didn’t realise that we had a “Vince shaped hole” until we brought him home! Thank you Grande-Daze.

Charlie

We are so grateful to Gary & Wendy for adopting senior dog, Charlie, and giving him the loving and caring final years that he deserves. It is lovely to continue to see him and to watch as he has got happier and healthier, all through the kindness of Wendy, Gary and the lovely Lola.

Charlie is a German Shepherd found wandering near Gorron on 2nd August 2017, very thin and dirty. He didn’t have any identification at all, simply a collar with some electrical cable attached. Anita brought him back to Grande Daze and tried, in vain, to find his owner. There was no way of finding out his age and he seemed very old due to the state he was in.

Once he had been cleaned up, he was thought to be about 9 and his given birthday is the day he was found, which makes him 10 now.

We don’t think he was mistreated as he isn’t fearful, he was just very sad so he may have been just abandoned or lost. We thought he would probably only have one winter left and wanted to make it a comfortable one for him. We knew we could give him a home for however long he had and set about getting to know him, visiting him and walking him around the lake at Grande Daze along with Lola, our other German Shepherd.

On 15th September 2017, we brought him home – it would have been sooner except that our village fete was the previous weekend and they have fireworks on the river outside our house, so we didn’t know how he would react.

Lola was very caring and respectful, allowing him to eat first, and laying near enough to him but giving him space. He soon fitted in to our daily routine and after a few months he started filling out and getting more confident. He doesn’t attempt to go upstairs, but each morning he barks upstairs to tell us it is time to get up and if you say “Where’s Charlie?” he barks to let you know he is waiting!

He has put on a few kilos and filled out a bit but, as he is an old boy, we never expected miracles. He runs, plays and enjoys his walks, so that is our reward – along with the cuddles he asks for on a regular basis!

Although it would be wrong to say it has been plain sailing (he had an operation for a hole in his cornea as well as a stroke), Charlie has enriched our lives and it is hard to imagine life without him. We will certainly be celebrating his first anniversary on 15th September and hope to have a few more years with him yet!

We couldn’t have done it without the help and assistance of Anita and Peter who were always on call when Charlie had a problem or we weren’t sure what to do when he had a bad spell, so this is a BIG Thank You to them.

Jed, Jack and Sam

Thank you to Pam & John who initially came to us for agility training with Jack & Sam, two energetic but wonderful Labradors, and then adopted little Jed who is now best friends with his big brothers! It is wonderful to see him so settled and happy.

Jed was adopted from Grande Daze and proved to be a really loyal pet. Jack and Sam were not adopted from there but they have been attending the agility lessons and with all the support we got from Anita and Peter they have turned into brilliant companions. We know the dogs are happy in their forever home.
