Peanut butter and dogs

It has come to our attention that a sugar substitute that is highly dangerous to dogs called XYLITOL is being used in a wide variety of foods, including some peanut butters (sources below). The product can cause liver failure and death. Many dog owners use peanut butter to make giving tablets easier, to stuff toys with or as a general dog treat. Please continue to do so if this is something your dog enjoys but we strongly suggest that you check the ingredients on anything you buy for you pet to avoid any possible problems.

We also wanted to take this opportunity to share an some general information on what dogs can and can’t eat. Of course, all foods can be dangerous if your dog has an allergy or if there are small (pips/seeds) or sharp (bone splinters) parts so please use your best judgement and speak to your vet about you dogs specific needs.
